Quick answer: Paid from $47.88/year (Individual), with no free plan, only a 14-day trial. Families is $71.88/year for 5 people. Plus sales tax — varies by state: the checkout showed $52.13 for New York before a card. The terms say the plan renews under the same conditions. Prices verified on 10/09/2026 on 1Password's site.
Plans and pricing
The prices below are the regular U.S. prices for 1Password’s two personal plans, read on the Billing page inside my trial account and on the public pricing page on 10/09/2026. The public page also advertised a first-year price for new customers, covered below.
| Plan | Per month, billed annually (USD) | Per year (USD) | What's included | Try |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Individual1 user, unlimited devices, 1 GB storage, Watchtower, Travel Mode. The public page advertised $2.99/month ($35.88) for the first year to new customers; the checkout inside our trial account showed $47.88 | $3.99 | $47.88 | 1 user, unlimited devices, 1 GB storage, Watchtower, Travel Mode. The public page advertised $2.99/month ($35.88) for the first year to new customers; the checkout inside our trial account showed $47.88 | See Individual |
| Families5 users, unlimited shared vaults, family organizer can recover accounts. Public page: $4.49/month ($53.88) first year for new customers | $5.99 | $71.88 | 5 users, unlimited shared vaults, family organizer can recover accounts. Public page: $4.49/month ($53.88) first year for new customers | See Families |
- Paying month to month instead of yearly costs more: $59.88 a year at the monthly rate vs $47.88 billed annually.
- Renewal price: not shown before payment on 1Password's checkout as of the last check — see the review.
Paying month to month instead of yearly: Individual $4.99 a month, Families $7.99 a month, plus tax. The subscribe window labels the yearly rate “Save 20%.”
- First year: $47.88 for Individual in my checkout. The public page advertised $2.99 a month ($35.88) for the first year to new customers who subscribe directly on 1Password.com, but that price didn’t appear in the trial account’s checkout.
- Renewal: not printed as a separate figure. The terms say the subscription renews “under the same conditions.”
- Sales tax: plus sales tax — varies by state. The checkout adds it after you enter a state and ZIP, before the card.
- Auto-renew: on by default. A reminder email goes out 7 days before the charge, per the checkout.
Prices verified on 10/09/2026 on 1Password’s site.
Prices went up on 03/27/2026. News reports and a Hacker News thread from 02/24/2026 quote 1Password’s email to customers: Individual from $35.88 to $47.88 a year and Families from $59.88 to $71.88, applied at the first renewal on or after that date. I couldn’t find the announcement on 1Password’s own site, so those older prices come from the thread, not from a vendor page.
Teams and Business plans
The Billing page inside my account also listed Teams Starter Pack at $299.40 a year for 10 members and Business at $107.88 per user a year, both plus tax (10/09/2026). I didn’t open a business checkout.
Which plan is right for you
- One person: Individual at $47.88 a year. Unlimited devices, 1 GB of storage, Watchtower, and Travel Mode.
- Two adults, or anyone who wants to share with up to four people: Families at $71.88 a year. Each member gets a private vault, and the organizer can recover a member’s account.
- You only want to try it: the 14-day trial of either plan, with no card. It turns read-only when it ends.
1Password family plan
Families costs $71.88 a year for 5 people and adds unlimited shared vaults and simple admin controls, per the pricing page (10/09/2026). The help center says the family organizer can recover a member’s account if they get locked out. I didn’t test a Families account.
What you pay when the free plan ends
There’s no free plan — here’s the cheapest way in. The 14-day trial asks for no card, and if it ends without one the account turns read-only rather than charging you. The cheapest paid step after that is Individual at $47.88 a year plus tax, or $4.99 for one month. What the trial includes and what freezes afterward is on the 1Password free trial page.
What you’ll actually pay at checkout
On 10/09/2026 I opened Billing in my trial account and clicked “Subscribe” under Individual. The window offered Annually at “$47.88 USD + tax” and Monthly at “$4.99 USD + tax,” a payment-method panel, a gift card option, and an address block.
After I chose United States, New York, and ZIP 10001, a line appeared above the Subscribe button: “I agree to pay the annual fee of $52.13 USD starting on October 23, 2026. This fee includes 8.875% New York tax, but does not reflect any credits or discounts that have been applied. A reminder email will be sent 7 days before. Cancel at any time.” That’s the full total before any card, which is better than most checkouts I’ve seen on this site.
What it didn’t show: a renewal price for year two, and the $2.99 first-year price from the public page. Payment options were a card through Stripe’s form and a 1Password gift card. The pricing page says U.S. accounts can also pay by ACH bank debit. All prices are in U.S. dollars.
What’s in the plan (and what isn’t)
Both personal plans include the same core, per the pricing page and my trial account on 10/09/2026:
| Plan | What it includes | What it doesn’t include |
|---|---|---|
| Individual, $47.88/year | 1 user, unlimited devices, apps and browser extensions, password generator, autofill, item sharing, Watchtower alerts, Travel Mode, 1 GB storage | Shared vaults with other people, account recovery by someone else |
| Families, $71.88/year | Everything in Individual for up to 5 people, unlimited shared vaults, admin controls, account recovery by the organizer | Business features such as SSO and admin reporting |
There is no free tier, no VPN, and no dark web monitoring beyond Watchtower’s breach checks. Export of your data works only in the desktop and mobile apps, not in the web app, per the help center.
How to cancel 1Password
1Password’s help center gives these steps (published 08/18/2026):
- Sign in to your account on 1Password.com.
- Select “Billing” in the sidebar.
- Scroll down and select “Cancel subscription,” then follow the on-screen instructions.
I couldn’t click that button because a trial has nothing to cancel: my Billing page showed only the plans and a “Subscribe” button. The trial ends on its own on day 14. The only cancel-like option I reached was inside the account deletion dialog, which offers “Cancel subscription temporarily” next to full deletion.
After you cancel a paid plan, it stays active until the end of the billing period and then the account freezes. A frozen account still lets you view items and copy passwords, but not add, edit, or fill them, per the help center (08/03/2026). Your data stays until you delete the account yourself.
Refund policy
None as a rule. The terms of service (last updated 09/12/2024) say “all amounts paid are non-refundable,” with refund requests “considered … on a case-by-case basis.” The help center’s refund page says 1Password is “unable to issue refunds for past charges or for any time remaining on your account.” Cancel during the trial and you aren’t charged at all. I didn’t request a refund.
I emailed 1Password’s support with a question about refunds and data deletion on 10/09/2026 at 5:03 a.m. ET. An automated reply with a ticket number came back within a minute; a person’s answer is still pending.
Other details for U.S. subscribers
What personal data they ask for — and how to delete it
Sign-up asks for your name, email address, and an account password. No card, phone, or street address until you subscribe, when the checkout asks for a country, state, and ZIP. To delete the account: Manage Account, then “Permanently Delete Account,” then “Delete Account.” The help center says you have 30 days to ask support to restore it before the data is permanently deleted (09/03/2026).
Who can sign up (U.S. only, state limits, age)
Anyone worldwide. At sign-up the data region is set by where you create the account: the United States, Canada, or the European Union, per the privacy notice (12/29/2025). I found no state limits. The terms don’t state a minimum age. Disputes go to arbitration in Toronto under Ontario law.
Support: channels and hours (ET)
Email at support@1password.com, a contact form, a chatbot, and a community forum. The plans page promises “24/7 support.” My email on 10/09/2026 at 5:03 a.m. ET got an automated acknowledgment in under a minute and no human reply by the time this page was written.
What we saw inside the account
The Billing page matched the public regular prices to the cent and listed the business plans too. The checkout printed the full first charge with tax once it had an address. There was no promo code field and no renewal line.
Is 1Password worth paying for?
Pay for 1Password if you want the full product with the total printed before you commit: $47.88 a year for one person, $52.13 with New York tax, and a reminder 7 days before each charge. Know two things first. There’s no refund once a charge goes through, so use the 14 trial days. And the $2.99 first-year price on the public page didn’t show up in my checkout, so check the figure on the subscribe screen before you add a card.
The full 1Password review covers the vault, the extension, and support in detail, and Bitwarden vs 1Password compares it with a free alternative.

FAQ
How much does 1Password cost per year?
Individual is $47.88 a year and Families is $71.88 a year for up to 5 people, plus sales tax — varies by state. Month to month they cost $4.99 and $7.99. Prices verified on 10/09/2026 on 1Password's site and in the Billing page of my trial account.
Does 1Password charge sales tax?
Yes, where the state applies it. On 10/09/2026 the checkout read “$47.88 USD + tax” until I entered a U.S. address. With a New York ZIP it printed “the annual fee of $52.13 USD,” which “includes 8.875% New York tax,” before any card was added.
What's 1Password's renewal price?
1Password doesn't print a separate renewal figure. The checkout shows the first charge, $47.88 plus tax, as the annual fee starting when the trial ends, and the terms say the subscription renews “under the same conditions” unless you cancel. Prices went up on renewals from 03/27/2026, so check Billing before each term.
Does 1Password auto-renew?
Yes. The terms (09/12/2024) say that “at the end of each Billing Cycle, your Subscription will automatically renew under the same conditions unless you cancel it.” The checkout adds that a reminder email goes out 7 days before the charge.
Can I get a refund from 1Password?
Usually not. The terms say all amounts paid are non-refundable, and the help center says 1Password is unable to refund past charges or time left on the account. The terms allow refunds “on a case-by-case basis” at the company's discretion. If you cancel during the 14-day trial, nothing is charged.
How do I cancel 1Password?
Sign in at 1Password.com, open “Billing” in the sidebar, scroll down and select “Cancel subscription,” per the help center (08/18/2026). The plan stays active until the end of the term, then the account freezes to read-only. A trial has no cancel button; it just ends.
What's the difference between 1Password Individual and Families?
Individual covers one person for $47.88 a year. Families covers up to 5 people for $71.88 a year, adds unlimited shared vaults, and lets the family organizer recover a member's account. Both have the same apps, Watchtower, and 1 GB of storage per person.
