How to Remove Yourself From TruthFinder in 2026
Reviewed · Updated
Opt-out forms and policies change; we checked this one on 10/08/2026.
Quick answer: You can opt out of TruthFinder for free through PeopleConnect's Suppression Center, and one request also covers Instant Checkmate, Intelius and US Search (checked 10/08/2026).
- By TruthFinder's help text and an outside guide, it takes about seven steps and needs your name, date of birth and an email or phone that's on your record.
- TruthFinder doesn't say how long removal takes. Outside guides report about 48 hours.
- Your name can still show up in phone, address and email searches. A removal service makes sense when TruthFinder is one of many sites to clear.
What TruthFinder shows about you (and where it gets it)
TruthFinder sells background reports. Its privacy policy says it collects “Public Data from various databases, government entities, commercial data providers, and websites” about U.S. residents, users and non-users alike (revised 09/29/2026). A report can list addresses, phone numbers, relatives and court records.
TruthFinder belongs to PeopleConnect, which also runs Instant Checkmate, Intelius, US Search and Classmates. That matters for you: the opt-out lives on PeopleConnect’s site, and it works across the people-search brands, not Classmates. TruthFinder is also not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA, by its own disclaimer. In 2023 it and Instant Checkmate paid $5.8 million to settle FTC charges about report accuracy and the FCRA (FTC, 09/11/2023).
Step 1: Open TruthFinder’s Privacy Center
You don’t need to find your listing or copy its URL first: the Suppression Center looks you up by name and date of birth. Scroll to the footer of truthfinder.com and click “Exercise My Data Privacy Rights.” A notice about the site’s terms may pop up first.
In the Privacy Center, open “View Public Data Tools” and click “Manage My Suppression Rules.” Skip the User Data tools for this: TruthFinder says deleting your User Data “will NOT prevent other users from searching for your Public Data.”
Step 2: Enter your email in the Suppression Center
The button opens suppression.peopleconnect.us. Step 1 asks for an email address and a checkbox agreeing to PeopleConnect’s terms. Use an address you can open right away.
This is where my run stopped. On 10/08/2026 I entered our test email, and the page answered “Something went wrong, please try again.” PeopleConnect’s server had blocked our connection, which ran through a VPN.
If you see the same error, try again without a VPN. Four of the 30 latest BBB complaints describe a different error further on, at the code step: “APIError.”
Step 3: Confirm your email, birth date and record
I didn’t reach these screens, so this part comes from TruthFinder’s help text and from Redact’s walk-through, updated 08/10/2026. Redact sells its own data-removal tool.
- Open the email from PeopleConnect and click the link. Redact says it expires 15 minutes after it’s sent.
- Enter your date of birth. Per Redact, the page warns it can’t be changed later.
- Enter your full legal name, plus any former names.
- Pick the record that’s you. Check the age, city and relatives.
- Choose one of the emails or phone numbers on that record and enter the code PeopleConnect sends.
TruthFinder’s FAQ explains the code step. An email or phone number already on the report is how it confirms the report is yours. Give only what the form requires.
Step 4: Set it to Suppressed, then check again
According to Redact, verifying isn’t the end. Open the “Desired Behavior” menu, choose “Suppressed” and click Save. That setting covers TruthFinder, Instant Checkmate, Intelius and US Search.
TruthFinder doesn’t say how long it takes. I found no time frame on its Privacy Center, the Suppression Center, or the privacy policy (10/08/2026). Redact writes that outside guides report about 48 hours, sometimes several days. After a week, search your name on truthfinder.com in a private window.
What stays visible after you opt out
Suppression hides the report that comes up for a name search. TruthFinder’s own FAQ lists what it doesn’t hide.
- Phone, address and email searches can still show your name.
- Your name can still appear in other people’s reports as a relative or associate. A separate form in the Privacy Center handles that. It asks for your name, date of birth, city, state and email.
- The original sources keep the data. Suppression doesn’t touch county records or other brokers.
TruthFinder also calls the tool “an optional feature made available at our discretion.” If your details show up again, it asks you to email privacy@truthfinder.com.
Extra rights in Connecticut, California and Washington
TruthFinder’s privacy policy, revised 09/29/2026, adds three state options. Rules differ by state, so check the current text before you rely on one.
- Connecticut. Starting 10/01/2026, residents can ask TruthFinder to delete a compiled profile, not only hide it. The request goes by email with your name, date of birth, city and state, and email address.
- California. TruthFinder processes deletion requests from the state’s DROP platform. Its policy notes that DROP “does not apply to publicly available information,” and suggests also using the Suppression Center.
- Washington. If your cell number has a Washington area code, TruthFinder says you can check it and remove it by calling (855) 921-3711.
Opt-out rights vary by state. California residents can also use the CCPA “Delete my personal information” request (CCPA, California Attorney General). For User Data, TruthFinder reported 66,667 deletion requests in 2025 and denied 3,516. By its note, denials include requests where people couldn’t verify who they were.
What owners report
Reddit blocked our connection, so I worked from BBB. Of the 30 latest complaints about TruthFinder (07/17/2026 to 09/18/2026), 14 were about personal details on the site or trouble removing them.
- Four quote the same error at the code step: “APIError.” One wrote on 07/23/2026: “Since then, I haven’t been able to proceed or resubmit the opt out.”
- One couldn’t verify because the record held only old contact details (09/15/2026).
- TruthFinder’s typical reply: it found the report and would suppress it, across its sister sites.
So if the form gets stuck, a BBB complaint or an email to privacy@truthfinder.com has worked for others.
When a removal service is cheaper than your time
TruthFinder alone is a manageable job: one free request covers four sites. The problem is the rest of the list. OneRep’s published list has 314 people-search sites (10/08/2026), and you’d have to find each one’s opt-out yourself. And TruthFinder itself says data discrepancies “may also make it difficult to remove everything associated with you.”
If you’d rather hand it off, OneRep lists truthfinder.com, intelius.com and instantcheckmate.com on every plan. Individual is $99.95/year after a 5-day trial that takes a card (checkout, 10/08/2026).
I didn’t run a removal with it, so I can’t say whether PeopleConnect accepts OneRep’s requests. DeleteMe’s help center says PeopleConnect doesn’t accept requests from DeleteMe. Before you sign up, know that OneRep’s founder said in 2024 he still owns part of the people-search site Nuwber. Details are in the OneRep review.

What we checked
- Opt-out form at suppression.peopleconnect.us: started 10/08/2026 with our test email — the site returned “Something went wrong” and its server blocked our connection, so no confirmation email; listing re-check — not possible
- TruthFinder pages: footer, Privacy Center, its FAQ, privacy policy (revised 09/29/2026) — captured 10/08/2026
- Steps after the email screen: from TruthFinder's own help text and Redact's guide (updated 08/10/2026), not from our own run
- Owners: 30 most recent BBB complaints about TruthFinder (07/17/2026–09/18/2026); Reddit blocked our connection; Trustpilot had no opt-out reviews we could find
- Removal services: published coverage lists of OneRep, Optery, DeleteMe and Incogni — captured 10/08/2026
- Where the run stopped: PeopleConnect's form returned an error at the email step on 10/08/2026 (our connection was blocked), so the steps after it come from TruthFinder's help text and an outside guide
FAQ
Is TruthFinder opt-out free?
Yes. PeopleConnect, which owns TruthFinder, says its Suppression Tool is free, and you don't need a TruthFinder account or subscription (checked 10/08/2026).
How long does TruthFinder take to remove a listing?
TruthFinder doesn't print a time frame on its Privacy Center, its Suppression Center, or its privacy policy (checked 10/08/2026). Redact's guide, updated 08/10/2026, says outside guides report about 48 hours, sometimes several days. Search your name again after a week.
Does opting out of TruthFinder also remove me from Instant Checkmate and Intelius?
Yes, by PeopleConnect's own text: one suppression covers TruthFinder, Instant Checkmate, Intelius and US Search. It doesn't cover Classmates.com, which PeopleConnect also owns.
Why is my information back on TruthFinder?
Suppression hides the background report that comes up when someone searches your name. TruthFinder says your name can still appear in phone, address and email searches. If you see your details after suppressing, TruthFinder asks you to email privacy@truthfinder.com.
Do I have to give TruthFinder my date of birth?
Yes. TruthFinder asks for your full name, date of birth, and a phone number or email you can verify. It says the date of birth is used to find the right report because many people share a name.
Does a removal service cover TruthFinder?
Some do. On 10/08/2026, truthfinder.com was on OneRep's list for every plan and on Optery's list for its Ultimate plan only. DeleteMe lists it as a custom request, and its help center says PeopleConnect doesn't honor DeleteMe's requests. Incogni's published list didn't include it.
