Services We Don't Recommend
This page lists services that went through the same test as everyone else and came out with a reason not to use them. Every entry has the date it was checked, the evidence, and one or two alternatives that scored higher on the same criterion.
What puts a service on this list
A service lands here for a reason about the product or about you as a customer, never for a reason about us:
- a “Poor” grade on Results, Checkout honesty or Data handling on the methodology scale;
- a charge without a renewal price shown before payment;
- a request for your Social Security number or photo ID before the price is shown;
- cancellation only by phone or chat, with no path in the account;
- no way to delete the account and its data, confirmed in writing by support;
- a product that was discontinued or withdrawn from the U.S. while still being sold.
Not having an affiliate program is never a reason. Services without a program are scored on the same scale and appear in rankings in the position they earn.
What takes a service off this list
A re-check that shows the reason is gone, with a date. The entry is removed, not kept as history. The review page gets a line saying what changed and when.
