Quick answer: Both are paid password managers with 14-day trials and no free plan. 1Password Individual costs $47.88 a year and printed its full total with tax before a card; Dashlane Premium costs $5.42 a month billed annually, about $65.04 a year, and includes a VPN. Dashlane gives a 30-day refund; 1Password gives none. I'd pick 1Password on price and checkout, Dashlane only if you want the VPN and the refund window. Checked 10/09/2026.

I opened a 1Password trial account on 10/09/2026 and took its checkout to the payment step. Dashlane has no affiliate program in our route and this site has no test account there, so its column comes from Dashlane’s own pricing and security pages on the same day, plus its help center and security advisory as quoted by third parties where Dashlane’s pages blocked our network. Dashlane gets no button on this page.

Prices verified on 10/09/2026 on 1Password’s and Dashlane’s sites. Dashlane’s yearly figures are its monthly rate times 12; its page shows only the per-month number.

Price: first year and renewal

1Password is about $17 a year cheaper for one person: $47.88 against Dashlane’s $65.04. For a group the gap is wider in dollars but Dashlane covers twice as many people: $71.88 for 5 at 1Password, $97.56 for 10 at Dashlane. 1Password also sells a month-to-month plan at $4.99; Dashlane’s personal page offered annual billing only.

Neither page printed a renewal price. 1Password’s terms say the subscription renews “under the same conditions,” and its checkout showed the first charge as the “annual fee … starting on October 23, 2026,” with a reminder email 7 days before. 1Password raised its regular prices on renewals from 03/27/2026, so what you see at checkout is the post-increase figure. The public 1Password page also advertised $2.99 a month for the first year to new customers, but that price didn’t appear inside my trial account’s checkout.

Trial, refunds and getting out

Both offer 14 days free. 1Password’s trial asked for a name, an email, and an account password, and no card; when it ends without a payment method the account turns read-only instead of charging you. Dashlane’s page says “Try free for 14 days,” and I didn’t open its sign-up, so whether it asks for a card is unknown here.

The refund rules differ. 1Password’s terms say “all amounts paid are non-refundable,” with case-by-case exceptions at the company’s discretion, and its help center says it can’t refund past charges or unused time. Dashlane’s help center says personal plans get a full refund if you cancel within 30 days of purchase, with the money back in 3 to 5 business days. I read that through a search summary, because Dashlane’s help pages blocked our network on 10/09/2026.

Security: what each company publishes

1Password lists ISO 27001, 27017, 27018, and 27701 certifications and a SOC 2 Type 2 report on its audits page (07/28/2026), and says annual pen-test reports moved to its Trust Center in November 2025. Its last disclosed incident was in September 2023: suspicious activity on the Okta instance that manages employee apps, which 1Password tied to Okta’s support-system breach and said touched no user data. Vaults are protected by the account password plus a 128-bit Secret Key that 1Password never stores.

Dashlane’s security page describes AES-256 encryption, Argon2d key derivation, a zero-knowledge design, and a vulnerability disclosure program, and points to a Trust Center for certifications without listing them. On 05/31/2026 Dashlane disclosed a brute-force attack on two-factor codes that let an outside party register devices on some accounts; its advisory, as quoted by The Hacker News on 06/02/2026, said fewer than 20 personal-plan users had their encrypted vaults downloaded, that those users were notified, and that Dashlane’s internal systems weren’t affected. Dashlane’s own advisory page blocked our network, so that account is secondhand.

Data handling

1Password’s sign-up asked for a name and an email, and the data region (United States, Canada, or EU) is set by where you create the account. One thing to turn off: the web app’s first-run prompt to share usage analytics had its switch on by default, and the Manage Account page has the same checkbox. Account deletion is in Manage Account, with 30 days to ask support to restore it.

Dashlane’s sign-up and account settings weren’t tested, so I can’t compare them here.

Who should pick 1Password

  • You want the lower price for one person and a month-to-month option.
  • You want the full total with tax printed before you enter a card.
  • You want hardware security keys for 2FA and a Secret Key on top of your password.
  • You can live without a refund window by using the 14 trial days well.

Who should pick Dashlane

  • You want a VPN and dark web monitoring inside the same subscription.
  • You want a 30-day refund window after paying.
  • You need a plan for up to 10 people and $97.56 a year is fine for that.

Verdict

1Password is the one I’d pick for most people: it’s cheaper for one person, it printed $52.13 with New York tax before asking for a card, and its last disclosed incident, in 2023, reached no user data. Dashlane answers with a 30-day refund, a bundled VPN, and a bigger family plan, and its 2026 incident exposed only encrypted vaults of fewer than 20 people by its own account. If the refund window or the VPN decides it for you, Dashlane is a reasonable choice. Everything on Dashlane’s side here is from its public pages, not a test account, so read the 1Password review and Dashlane’s own pricing page before you choose.
