Quick answer: Paid from $74.85 for the first 15 months (Basic), then $139.08 a year. There is no free plan, only a 7-day trial with a card. Monthly is $14.99. Plus sales tax, added at checkout: 8.875% with a New York ZIP. 30-day refund on the first purchase. Prices verified on 10/27/2026 on NordVPN's site.
I couldn’t open a NordVPN account on 10/27/2026: the Nord Account sign-up page blocked our connection, and an account is otherwise created only by paying. I took the checkout to the card form, and the cancel and refund steps come from the help center.
Plans and pricing
The table shows NordVPN’s three plans on the 1-year term, the one most people buy, from the U.S. version of the pricing page on 10/27/2026. The first payment on a 1-year plan covers 15 months, a year plus three extra months. The per-month figure is that payment spread over the term, and the whole amount is billed up front.
| Plan | Per month, billed annually (USD) | Per year (USD) | What's included | Try |

2-year plans
The 2-year term runs 27 months for the first payment: Basic $94.23, Complete $107.73 and Prime $188.73 on 10/27/2026. That works out to $3.49, $3.99 and $6.99 a month. After the first 27 months each plan renews yearly at the same prices as the 1-year plans, starting with $139.08 for Basic.
Monthly plans
Basic is $14.99 a month, Complete $19.99 and Prime $29.99, billed every month. A year of monthly Basic costs $179.88, more than the 15-month first term of the yearly plan. The help center says the 1- and 2-year plans must be paid in full at purchase.
Which plan is right for you
- You just want a VPN: Basic. It covers 10 devices with the VPN, scam filtering and a dark web monitor for five emails. $74.85 for 15 months.
- You’d also pay for a password manager or cloud storage: Complete adds both, plus malware and ad blocking on desktop, for $15 more in the first term. It renews at $219.48.
- You want credit monitoring and ID theft insurance in the same bill: Prime adds 1-bureau credit monitoring and up to $1M in identity theft insurance. It renews at $296.28 a year.
- You’ll keep it for years: the 2-year term has the lowest monthly price, and then it renews yearly.
Dedicated IP and Incogni add-ons
A dedicated IP is an add-on on every plan, offered at $4.29 a month on the checkout we reached. Incogni, the data removal service from the same company group, is an add-on at checkout too. Both raise the renewal bill.
There’s no free plan — here’s the cheapest way in
The cheapest way to try NordVPN is the 7-day free trial, which needs a card or PayPal and starts the plan automatically on day eight. The second is the 30-day money-back guarantee on your first purchase. The NordVPN free trial page compares the two. The cheapest paid entry is Basic at $74.85 for 15 months plus tax.
What you’ll actually pay at checkout
I reached the card form without an account on 10/27/2026. I set the tax country to the United States and the ZIP to 10001. The order summary for Basic then added 8.875% New York sales tax, $6.11, and showed a $74.96 total before the card. Payment by card, PayPal, Google Pay or crypto, and the checkout had a “Got a coupon?” link.
The base price there was $68.85, not the $74.85 on the U.S. pricing page. The checkout priced the plan for our non-U.S. connection while charging U.S. tax, so expect the U.S. figure.
Above the purchase button: “The renewal price is $139.08/year, sales tax may apply.” The offer terms below add that annual plans are “billed annually (up to 14 days before the renewal),” with an email notice first.
What’s in the plan (and what isn’t)
From the U.S. pricing page on 10/27/2026:
| Plan | What it includes | What it doesn’t include |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | VPN on 10 devices, scam and phishing filtering, Dark Web Monitor for 5 emails | Anti-malware, ad blocker, password manager, storage, credit monitoring |
| Complete | Basic plus anti-malware and ad blocking on desktop, email, call and message protection, password manager, 1 TB storage, Dark Web Monitor Pro, U.S. bank transaction monitoring | Credit monitoring, identity theft insurance |
| Prime | Complete plus credit freeze assistance, 1-bureau credit monitoring, VantageScore 3.0, up to $1M identity theft insurance and $100K cyber extortion insurance | Incogni and a dedicated IP, which are add-ons |
The insurance is issued by HSB Specialty Insurance Company, and the pricing page notes that NordVPN is not a licensed insurance producer.
How to cancel NordVPN
NordVPN’s help center gives these steps (read 10/27/2026):
- Log in to your Nord Account.
- Open the “Billing” tab.
- Click “Cancel” next to auto-renewal.
- Select “Cancel auto-renewal.”
The status changes to off and a confirmation email follows. The plan runs to the end of the period. If you bought through the App Store, Google Play or Amazon, cancel in that store. Canceling stops the next charge and doesn’t refund by itself. I didn’t reach this screen.
Refund policy
Thirty days from your first purchase. The help center says the guarantee “applies only to your initial subscription purchase,” and a renewal isn’t eligible “unless local laws require otherwise.” The terms of 08/10/2026 say the same. They allow prorated renewal refunds only in Germany, the Netherlands and the U.K.
To claim it, you contact support, open the link they send, and click Refund on an eligible payment. Refunds can take up to 10 business days. App Store purchases are refunded by Apple, and Google Play purchases within 48 hours can be refunded by Google. I didn’t request a refund.
Other details for U.S. subscribers
What personal data they ask for — and how to delete it
The checkout asks for an email address, payment details and a ZIP for the tax. NordVPN says it keeps the email, a VPN username and the transaction ID. Deleting the account is self-service in the Nord Account, with a code sent to your email, or by a request form.
Who can sign up (U.S. only, state limits, age)
Anyone worldwide who is 18 or older, per the terms, which are governed by the law of Panama. Sales tax is added by ZIP. I found no state limits on 10/27/2026.
Support: channels and hours (ET)
24/7 live chat, starting with an AI chatbot, and an email form. No phone support. I sent no question: both channels ask for an email address, and I had no test inbox.
What we saw inside the account
Nothing. The sign-up page blocked us, and an account is otherwise created only by paying, so this page relies on the pricing page, the checkout, the terms and the help center.
Is NordVPN worth paying for?
Pay for Basic if you want a VPN from a large, audited provider and you’ll use it for at least the first 15 months. At $74.85 that is about $4.99 a month. The checkout is honest about the tax and the renewal price, which is more than many subscriptions manage.
Know the second-year price before you start. Basic renews at $139.08, nearly double, and the refund window closes 30 days after the first payment. Set a reminder two weeks before the renewal, because the charge can come that early.
The NordVPN review covers the audits, the apps and what owners report, and NordVPN vs Proton VPN compares it with a VPN that renews for less.
What we checked
- Checkout: opened without an account on 10/27/2026 and taken to the card form for Basic and Complete. With a New York ZIP it showed the sales tax, the total and the renewal price. Nothing was paid
- Prices: the U.S. version of the pricing page, read through a reader on 10/27/2026, because our browser was shown Canadian dollars. The checkout offered our non-U.S. connection a lower first-term price for Basic, and both are shown
- Cancellation and refunds: help center articles and the terms of 08/10/2026 — not tested, no account
- Vendor pages: pricing page, checkout offer terms, renewal, plans, cancel and refund articles, terms — read 10/27/2026
- Not checked: the cancel screen, a refund request, Prime at checkout, business plans
